The International Space Station manufactured the first 3D printed object in space in November 2014. NASA collaborated with Made In Space, Inc., to design, build and test the 3-D printer used in space. Therefore, the first 3D printed object in space was a face-plate engraved with the names of NASA and Made In Space, Inc. NASA considers this experiment as the first step towards evolving use of additive manufacturing in space missions. 3D printing can be used as a fast and inexpensive way to manufacture parts in space, for example, to make repairs on International Space Station.¨
