Jabil’s plan for $42M medical 3D printing with 24 percent core EPS growth

According to St. Petersburg-based Jabil (NYSE: JBL),” is set to make a $42 million investment in Albuquerque, New Mexico for technology and equipment as it makes the Duke City its “center of excellence” for 3D printing, officials announced on Aug. 15. The company said it plans to hire 120 employees in the next five years.”
According to New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham said in a statement “We have all the talent in the world right here in New Mexico, and when we build the infrastructure for a 21st-century economy, we will see more young adults stay here and more homegrown talent return here.”
According to CEO Mark Mondello, “I’m extremely pleased with our third-quarter performance, highlighted by solid operational excellence and strong financial results. The team delivered 20 basis points of core margin expansion on double-digit revenue growth, culminating in an impressive 24 percent core EPS growth, year-over-year. I have a robotics class in my high school, and the entire class has to build some with the tools they learned from previous years. I am the only one that is making a fully functional 3D printed arm.

UCLA professor uses 3D printing for fashion designs

According to ucla.edu/news,” UCLA faculty member Julia Koerner, whose 3D printed designs were featured in the movie Black Panther, which was recently recognized with a 2019 Academy Award for Best Costume Design.

Koerner, a Los Angeles-based Austrian architect and the founder of JK Design GmbH. She has won many awards for her work, which is at the convergence of architecture, product, and fashion design – specializing in additive manufacturing and robotic technology. In 2015, Julia launched an entirely 3D-Printed ready-to-wear collection entitled ‘Sporophyte’. Her collaborations involved 3D-Printed fashion pieces developed with Haute Couture Houses for Paris Fashion week and 3D printed costumes for Hollywood entertainment productions such as Marvel’s Black Panther in collaboration with Ruth Carter. Most recently she collaborated with Swarovski on a showpiece which displays Swarovski’s continued strive for innovation and the early developments of 3D-printing technology with glass”.

According to Victor Surovec, program coordinator for the maker services and Sarah Lakenau,”The ‘teeth’ on this breastplate were created in a 3D printer using a scan of a real tooth from a grizzly bear, according to Sarah Lakenau, clinical assistant professor of costume technology in the School of Film, Dance, and Theatre at ASU.
I emphasize to my students that they should use technology to solve a problem.
There was a time you did have to be in a profession to have the skill set to run some of this equipment, but now, the usability of some of this stuff has gotten to a level where I teach a 6-year-old to design and print in 3D”.
