Billionaire Fred Ebrahimi becomes leading investor in Desktop Metal

Farhad “Fred” Ebrahimi is an Iranian-American billionaire and entrepreneur. He made his fortune as the founder of Quark Software, a company specializing in enterprise publishing software. In 2011, Ebrahimi’s family sold their shares in Quark Software to Platinum Equity, a private equity firm based in California.

He has invested in companies such as ViewRay, Inc., a medical imaging firm, and First Solar, Inc., a leading solar panel manufacturer. Ebrahimi has also contributed to development projects in India, including establishing a 50-acre planned community called Quark City.

In May 2023, Ebrahimi acquired 7.43% of Desktop Metal, a 3D printing company, making him the leading investor in the company. His investment was filed as an activist investor, indicating his intention to influence the company’s decisions and operations. Despite selling some of his shares, Ebrahimi still holds 7.26% of Desktop Metal, which gives him a significant stake in the company.
